My favorite quote from Mr. Nepo yesterday was the following:
"To be broken is no reason to see all things as broken. I need everything that's not broken to help me." ~Mark Nepo (a cancer survivor)

Mark Nepo was guest on Super Soul Sunday yesterday. Although, through the years, I was not a huge fan of Oprah, I enjoy OWN t.v. It's a breath of fresh air. I enjoy the sit-down conversations, especially those of the various spiritual leaders.

Good news! His feeding tube is out and he's getting back to regular diet. He can finally have a beer again. He says, "Life is looking up." He now goes for 8 more weeks of chemo treatments and, as he put it, things should be better. Chemo starts again next week.
"Go get 'em, tiger!" This came to me as a 'forward'. Since I don't like forwards, I copied and pasted the content because I felt it relevant to share.
To Kill an American ~ written by an Australian Dentist You probably missed this in the rush of news, but there was actually a report that someone in Pakistan had published in a newspaper, an offer of a reward to anyone who killed an American, any American. So an Australian dentist wrote an editorial the following day to let everyone know what an American is . So they would know when they found one. (Good one, mate!!!!) "An American is English, or French, or Italian, Irish, German, Spanish , Polish, Russian or Greek. An American may also be Canadian, Mexican, African, Indian, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Australian, Iranian, Asian, or Arab, or Pakistani or Afghan. An American may also be a Comanche, Cherokee, Osage, Blackfoot, Navaho, Apache, Seminole or one of the many other tribes known as native Americans. An American is Christian , or he could be Jewish, or Buddhist, or Muslim. In fact, there are more Muslims in America than in Afghanistan . The only difference is that in America they are free to worship as each of them chooses. An American is also free to believe in no religion.. For that he will answer only to God, not to the government, or to armed thugs claiming to speak for the government and for God. An American lives in the most prosperous land in the history of the world. The root of that prosperity can be found in the Declaration of Independence , which recognizes the God given right of each person to the pursuit of happiness. An American is generous.. Americans have helped out just about every other nation in the world in their time of need, never asking a thing in return. When Afghanistan was over-run by the Soviet army 20 years ago, Americans came with arms and supplies to enable the people to win back their country! As of the morning of September 11, Americans had given more than any other nation to the poor in Afghanistan ... The national symbol of America , The Statue of Liberty , welcomes your tired and your poor, the wretched refuse of your teeming shores, the homeless, tempest tossed. These in fact are the people who built America Some of them were working in the Twin Towers the morning of September 11 , 2001 earning a better life for their families. It's been told that the World Trade Center victims were from at least 30 different countries, cultures, and first languages, including those that aided and abetted the terrorists. So you can try to kill an American if you must. Hitler did. So did General Tojo , and Stalin , and Mao Tse-Tung, and other blood-thirsty tyrants in the world.. But, in doing so you would just be killing yourself . Because Americans are not a particular people from a particular place. They are the embodiment of the human spirit of freedom. Everyone who holds to that spirit, everywhere, is an American." I just found out today that a close friend who has possibly broken her arm. For now, they have her in a sling and all wrapped up to try and keep her arm immovable. She'll go in to a specialist on Monday, let them look at the x-rays of her humerus bone to determine if surgery is necessary.
She was working in her yard the the dog tripped her and down she went. The timing for this was not the best; that bums her out more than anything. She and her spouse have just moved into a new home and still settling in. She also has family coming to visit for Thanksgiving and she will probably still be convalescing by then. If we lived closer, I would go help. Instead I'll just keep sending well wishes her way! I'm sending positive thoughts your way, girlfriend. Behave yourself and be mindful of what your doing ... essentially, DO NOTHING UNTIL MONDAY!! *smile* I'm asking for prayers and get well wishes for my friend. I spent a few hours last night doing more scanning and uploaded more Brenda Lee photos. If you're a Brenda Lee fan, check them out at www.bygonetimes.weebly.com I'm hoping to add photo bylines, as I go along.
My sister is having health issues. She went in for one thing and, of course, they found something else that HAS to be checked - test after test ... and still no positive results. Those of you who pray, please pray for my sister, or just send positive thoughts her way. It's in the kidneys I'm told. They say 'abnormal' yet can't find anything wrong. Hello?
WTH? That's why I'm not a mainstream medicine person, for the most part. Why can't I just go in for the one affliction without being checked for every other thing in my body? It just seems like government, doctors, clinics, the pill pushers, etc. are all 'too much into my business'. If I die younger from not getting something checked or from not being willing to take pills that have more side effects than the ONE thing I'm concerned about ... well, that should be up to me. The government should not regulate what I have to and not have to do, with my personal health and well being. I love my horoscope for today:
In order to move past your mistakes you have to keep pushing yourself forward. The only person who is still beating you up over what you did is you -- and it's time to move on. You are not perfect, that's no mystery. But no one else is either. Set a goal today -- hold yourself to a high standard and force yourself to rise to your own expectations. Give yourself an emotional hug and start focusing on the future. You've learned from where you've been. Good advice for anyone, really! Here's a quote from Dean: "Off of feeding tube and on soft diet, Still under house arrest, am seeing main doctor tomorrow and may lose feeding tube. Hope hope hope, still getting my strength back, was knocked down further than I thought. Will see chemo doctor the 12th to maybe start 2nd round of chemo for 9 weeks. All in all things are going pretty good considering."
I love this show. The most difficult part, for me, is when it gets down to the popularity part. There have already been a few couples who really deserve to still be in the ranks, for their skill and abilities on the dance floor. If you don't have a fan base behind you, it's more difficult to win. I'm not so sure they should even consider it a competition. At least they don't have to live up to being an "idol" or something like that. I love watching the growth of the underdogs, or the ones who've had little dancing background. I love to see them 'blossom' and gain more belief in themselves.
A family member has just undergone a quadruple heart bypass. Please extend positive thoughts, prayers, etc. It's anticipated he will stay in ICU until at least mid-week. Speedy recovery, Ken!
