The man they're looking for has known the family for many years. The woman, her ex, and Dimaggio were close enough that their children referred to Dimaggio as "uncle"! I just heard a news clip that the "uncle" had admitted to having a crush on their pubescent 16-year-old daughter. The news clip said he told friends that him telling her that he "creeped her out" ... understandably. And now ... she, and he are missing and on the run.
Like it's been said, we need to not just teach our children "not talk to strangers," but also teach them about boundaries, and their own personal safety. Children need to know "when" and "what" constitutes invasion of their personal privacy. Parents also need to encourage their kids to keep the avenues of communication open, so they know you'll listen, and help. And, to the kids out there, "If no one listens ... keep talking until you find someone who will."
It's a real drag to live your whole life in fear and distrust of others.
