I would consider this a "sister" article to the link I posted yesterday. It seems we're in a world of having to research and find the "truth" for ourselves since we can't depend on those very agencies that are responsible for "safe" food. You often hear in the media about us being an obese nation. Yet, if you want to eat a healthy, it costs more to do so. I've always been told that if people do it anyway, then the "supply and demand" increases, and prices decrease. Even during the hippie days of communes, group gardening, and advocates (like Euell Gibbons, wild food guru) of eating "natural", that theory has never played out. I've yet to see that theory work. Here we are, an obese nation, and not only is it more expensive to BUY natural foods, but also the things that are needed to GROW your own, are not cheap either. We are a starving nation despite, or because of, so many unhealthy choices at our fingertips. Yes, we humans have "free will" - but if you choose the "wrong" things, you will may eventually be denied insurance and/or medical help (because of no insurance). It looks like a no-win situation to me. I'm saddened, frustrated, and afraid - they gave us all this temptation, for greed, power, and money. Isn't that a "crock" ... and not one full of Mom's homemade "chicken soup"!
For those of you who are too young to know who Euell Gibbons was, I have included a few links about him, and his influence during the hippie era. He was a very "colorful" person, who definitely walked to his "own drummer", as were so many of the influential people of the 1960s and 1970s culture.
