It looks as though everyone is jumping on the bandwagon to label "obesity" as a disease. I'm a fence sitting when it comes to this issue. If I am diagnosed as being afflicted with "obesity", does that mean that I can sue companies like Hershey, Russell Stover, Ghirardelli, or Reese's for being an accessory to a crime, because I am a chocoholic? Or, can companies that produce sugary, fatty foods be held responsible in any way? This really opens up a whole new can of worms (chocolate-covered?)! And what about lap band and the variety of ways to curb weight gain and food intake? I know of people who have done those things, and because of personal food choices, have put all those pounds back on again. Bottom line, it's a lifestyle change - all your life - there's no easy way out ... we can't blame our lack of self-control on others, or can we? What a crazy society we are living in today!
