See page 5. OH Dutrow was my great-grandfather. I have those photos, hanging on my wall! After my grandfather died, I found a few things in the back of a pickup truck, as they were emptying out my grandparents' house. This was one of those 'pearls' I was able to retrieve. It makes me wonder what else was randomly taken to the local dump! No matter; life goes on! And here's another 'pearl' ... more mention of relatives!

This weekend I spent most of my time going through personal paperwork, i.e. funeral and family stuff. I went through paperwork from when my uncle passed away. I was out of town on a video shoot in Washington D.C. and, unfortunately, had no available communication at the time and missed his funeral. It has been about nine years since he passed.
Before I actually tossed out sympathy cards, etc., I read each card - just to enjoy the nice things everyone said about him. He was well liked, respected, and will be missed by many. While going through the cards, I found one with a $5.00 check in it. I thought that ironic, on a couple of levels. When my uncle was alive, I always got $100. for my birthday and for Christmas. After his passing, I seldom even got recognized by his wife (they were married all my life). The very last card I got from her, before she died . . . $5.00! The $5.00 check is nearly 10 years old. I have no intentions of cashing it, but I do plan on seeing if they are still alive - the ones who sent it to my uncle's wife. Life is so strange sometimes. Since the check was still in the card, I'm assuming they did not get an acknowledgement, or a thank you. So I will attempt to do that, now (if they are still alive). *smile* Songwriter, singer, activist and political icon Pete Seeger recently passed away. He died at 94 and I'm betting he spent most of his years trying to get for all of us, in life, what he has now, in death . . . peace, and justice.
In memory, may you rest in peace, Pete! "Some may find them [songs] merely diverting melodies. Others may find them incitements to Red revolution. And who will say if either or both is wrong? Not I." ~Pete Seeger The above quote came from the following link a pretty concise and interesting biography of this icon of our times: http://www.biography.com/people/pete-seeger-9542618 |
