A little more reflection . . .

Mom was such a proud Grandma!
Picture
Being 6 weeks early, she just wanted to "sleep".  We had to "tap" on the bottom of her feet to wake her up for feedings.

You can see how tiny she was ... the picture on the left was typical "burping" position.  Papa's hand nearly covered her ... and in the photo on the right you can see how much I had to "roll up" the sleeves on her sleeper.

Can't brag yet . . . reflections of a mother . . .

The day of my daughter's birth!
As I anxiously await the birth of another grandchild, I can't help but reflect upon our own daughter's birth.  Her birth due date was Thanksgiving also, however, she had other plans.  She came six weeks early.
Two grandsons now, with 90% chance of this baby being a girl, it appears she may just go full term, or darn close to it anyway!  Granddaughter or grandson, early or late ... my prayers are for a safe delivery for mom, easy entrance into the world for baby, and I extend wishes of good health and many blessings for the whole family!  I love all of you sooo much ... and am anxiously awaiting a phone call!  Heart-to-heart hugs ... *smile*

“When a child is born, so are grandmothers.”  ~Judith Levy

“A baby is born with a need to be loved - and never outgrows it.”  ~Frank A. Clark
Even after they grow up, and may deny it, they 'forever' need to be loved.  ~nrl

Just a Walk . . .

Beyond and behind this visit, there is another story.  Actually, a tender love story.  But, for now, enjoy my sister's stroll down memory lane, with her very special friend.
It was a heart-warming visit.  My sister, back for a family visit, also got a short visit with a very special friend - one of her spiritual mentors. She knew his wife, Mary, first (from a church we attended).  Occasionally we would  go to their place on Sunday after church. They reminisced and shared memories.  I reflected on my memories - drinking warm milk after straining it through cheesecloth, picking and eating strawberries and, oh yeah, the outhouse!

Smart Aleck (Alec)?

11/16/2012

According to www.wisegeek.com :

"The first Aleck was Aleck Hoag, a confidence man in New York City who appears to have operated in the 1840s. Aleck was a pimp, and he used the activities of his women to reap additional income through a scheme called the “panel game.” Aleck would wait until the customer was asleep or otherwise occupied, and then he would sneak into the room to steal the customer's wallet and valuables. Patrons got wise to this scheme, and they started blocking doors with chairs and tables. In response, Hoag built false wall panels which slid aside so that he could enter the room without entering the door.

This particular smart aleck qualifies as a wise guy for several reasons. He clearly evaded capture for long enough to develop quite an elaborate system for relieving people of their money and valuables. He also openly boasted about the panel scheme, demonstrating it for curious visitors. Furthermore, Hoag also attempted to avoid paying the police their cut, and “smart aleck” may have actually originated in the constabulary. It didn't take long for Hoag to become well known, and “smart aleck” was a common term in 1860s slang.

As a general rule, “smart aleck” is not a complimentary term. A smart aleck tends to be bold and rather cocky about it, and these traits tend to be frowned upon by many societies. The term may be used pejoratively, in the hopes of encouraging someone to reform, or it may be used in reference to someone who is essentially incorrigible, as a warning to people who might deal with that person."

Rich Little

I got to go see Rich Little this evening.  What a great show!  He did 33 "impressions" in this evening's performance ... and sang, too.  When I called today they said no cameras allowed during the performance.  I didn't take my camera (totally out of character for me), but I could have gotten a few photos when he mingled a bit after his show ... dang it!  He did autograph my program.  As with most stars, you can't read it.  I would have loved to have gotten a T-shirt, but I just couldn't justify the cost.  He also sold lithographs of his own artwork (of the characters he did). and also sold DVDs, CDs, etc. www.richlittle.com

Links about Leaving Facebook ... deactivate vs. delete

11/15/2012

First of all, anyone wanting to permanently delete their FB page should HAND DELETE everything ... comments (yours and others), likes, favorites, photos (yours and others), all contacts, etc.  Once you're done, Google your name, and your Facebook page ... you might be surprised what is still available out there, as a result of things you did while on Facebook.  It's like the domino theory, every time you "like" or "favorite" something.  On and on, you go ... whether you want to or not ... advertisers, spammers and scammers depend on those, so they can add you to their "lists".

10 Reasons to Leave Facebook:

I hope the above links will assist anyone who wants to DELETE (not deactivate) their Facebook account.  Or at least you can learn that there IS a difference!

Facebook is at it again ...

http://shine.yahoo.com/love-sex/hate-facebooks-couples-pages-222400304.html

I love it! I miss some of my former FB friends, but don't miss Facebook, not at all. It gets worse all the time ... however, why not have "couples" pages? Got something to hide?  If you're married, or an "item" why shouldn't you have a "couple" page?

I see many who have said they have 'quit' Facebook.  I wonder how many are actually gone, or if they just closed their account.  Just closing your account does not 'delete' your information, etc.  Facebook (and spammers) still have your information.  When I left FB it took me over a month to have things "completely gone".

I don't miss FB a bit, and I left for the very reason is stated here ... they take too much liberty, with no warnings of their changes or, at best, confusing management tactics ... it's bad enough everyone treats FB like their living rooms and then have the audacity to get mad at people who post things they don't want to hear ... DUH, what do you all expect?

There is no friendship, no love, like that of a mother for her child.  ~Henry Ward Beecher

A baby is sunshine and moonbeams and more, brightening your world as never before.  ~Author Unknown

How to Diaper a Baby:
Spread the diaper in the position of the diamond with you at bat.  Then fold second base down to home and set the baby on the pitcher's mound.  Put first base and third together, bring up home plate and pin the three together.  Of course, in case of rain, you gotta call the game and start all over again!  ~Jimmy  Piersal

Breast Feeding:
There are three reasons for breast-feeding: the milk is always at the right temperature; it comes in attractive containers; and the cat can't get it.  ~Irena Chalmers
