I remember being caught aback by Gilda Radner when she did her impersonations of "Baba Wawa" on SNL. Back then, that was really pushing the envelope; we had t.v. censorship then. It was obvious Barbara didn't like it; her body language spoke volumes whenever it would be mentioned. However, it was her 10-year-old daughter who changed her feelings about being made fun of ... she said to her, "Oh, mom, where's your sense of humor?" Oddly, if someone is noticing you enough to make fun of you, on some level, you have made it. I have to give kudos to Barbara Walters for being a trooper and not letting those humor bashings get her goat. Admittedly, had that been done to me, I don't know if I could have handled it with grace. Sometimes Gilda's humor was a real hit to the gut, like the guts she obviously had to even make fun of them. I look back at tapes and how tame it all seems, compared to now. I often wonder how she really feels about it all now. "Baba Wawa" character really helped to catapult Barbara's career. I never really paid much attention to her and, actually, didn't care for her back then. And, I have to disagree with what Barbara says on this You Tube snippet; she did have trouble with those letters! No harm intended. *smile*
