Before I actually tossed out sympathy cards, etc., I read each card - just to enjoy the nice things everyone said about him. He was well liked, respected, and will be missed by many.
While going through the cards, I found one with a $5.00 check in it. I thought that ironic, on a couple of levels. When my uncle was alive, I always got $100. for my birthday and for Christmas. After his passing, I seldom even got recognized by his wife (they were married all my life). The very last card I got from her, before she died . . . $5.00!
The $5.00 check is nearly 10 years old. I have no intentions of cashing it, but I do plan on seeing if they are still alive - the ones who sent it to my uncle's wife. Life is so strange sometimes. Since the check was still in the card, I'm assuming they did not get an acknowledgement, or a thank you. So I will attempt to do that, now (if they are still alive). *smile*
