What will you miss about him? How did Dick Clark affect your life? What are your favorite memories of this mega pop culture icon?
notice the "tube" radio in background I have posted my own personal memorial to Dick Clark on my homepage. I have highlighted my feelings about how he affected my life, and his impact on the musical industry. He was so much more than a legend in music. It just so happens that what he did in his early years had the most influence on me. Many of us began our love of music listening to music on "tube" radios, and began our "visual" rock 'n roll relationship with Dick Clark on a black and white "tube" televisions. Color televisions had been out only a few years, however, only the elite and wealthy had those!

I was very saddened to hear of Dick Clark's passing. He was a great influence in my life. He made it so much easier to love music, besides just listening to 45's, I could see people dancing and enjoying music. An added bonus was to see your idol singers. So Awesome. Dick Clark just knew what people liked and he did it. I watched an interview he had done, he was the first person to get black people involved in the dancing. He said "they called them Negroes back then". He thought there would be a backlash, but no one said anything. I don't remember that being a problem. Dick Clark was a genius in all the endeavors he undertook. I will miss him. He was a BIG PART of my teenage years. He made loving music a great experience. RIP Mr. Clark.

First of all, I love it that you will comment in my blogs when something "moves you". Thank you. I agree about how it made it easier to love music, and listening to 45's. My mom worked in bars and whenever they changed the music on the juke boxes, guess who got to bring the old ones home? Uh, yeah ... me! I like Dick Clark because he was picky about who he brought on the show. They had to be not just something the kids liked, but also music and artists of which most parents would approve. Like the quote I posted on my homepage, he didn't create new fads, he just found them and exploited them! Hearing of his death did bring me to tears. RIP, Dick!

I feel so lucky to have grown up in the American Bandstand , Dick Clark era! The 50's were FANTASTIC!!! The music, entertainers, clothes, cars, tv shows, etc. were all TERRIFIC!!! What an era!!!

Sue, I'm in total agreement about feeling lucky to have been a part of the '50s decade - a simpler time, and great fun. I loved our "shades of grey" world! Shades of grey can be more vibrant than color! Thanks, Sue, for interacting with me on my blog. I look forward to more! *smile*
