The more I read and news clips I watch on t.v., the more heart heavy I become.
The principal and counselor at the school were two of the adults killed; that is very sad. The school counselor's job is to interact with students and their families when something like this happens.
He (Adam Lanza) killed his mother, took her car, traveled to the school, killing so many innocent souls. Now investigators are busy with the visible carnage of nearly 30 bodies throughout the school. Unfortunately, the majority being young children. And then he committed suicide. The worst thing about that, to me, is that when the shooter commits suicide it leaves so many unanswered questions - and no way for concrete answers. Facts die, as did he ...
PTSD will run rampant in this community now. Adam, the shooter, is said to be "autistic" and now they want to blame this young man's actions on his autistic diagnosis. There have not been enough studies to prove any connection between having the affliction of autism and the madness played out by Lanza at this elementary school.
So many layers and dynamics involved in such a devastating situation ... emotional health, gun control, psychology, psychiatry ... and how much of all this should involve the government control and mandates, and even the actions of the President?
For those that want to demand more information and expect answers ... the investigation is on going - everything is only "speculation" or "assumptions" at this point. The biggest challenge I see is trying to understand and learn how and what can be done to soothe the emotional wounds of those who are struggling their way through life. Mental health, or lack of it, can "trigger" malalignment in our human psyche. When a person snaps, they lose any logic and control of themselves. Having said that, it doesn't excuse these killings.
It's also very sad that these parents are unable to have their children's bodies. They are arranging for a "mobile morgue" as they sort through the mound of bodies resulting from such a horrible crime. They are now beginning to transport victims to local morgues.
Still so many unanswered questions ... and the fact that it happened so close to the Christmas holiday will forever change this time of year for all those involved. What can we who were not directly involved even say to this victims' families ... so heart heavy. This has impacted the whole world.
I reflect now upon the traditional American spiritual (1927), "He's Got the Whole World in His Hands". It makes me wonder what many "believers" are thinking. Not mention, I have no doubt that proclaimed atheists will have a hey day with this one! I'm sure it will be a test of faith for many - situations like this will either strengthen or weaken your walk with the Lord!
Heart-to-heart (cyber) hugs go out to everyone involved!!!
