All I need to know I learned from the Easter Bunny!

The following was attached to a "forward" I received.  Enjoy ...
  •  Don't put all your eggs in one basket.
  •  Everyone needs a friend who is all ears.
  • There's no such thing as too much candy.
  • All work and no play can make you a basket case.
  • A cute tail attracts a lot of attention.
  • Everyone is entitled to a bad hare day.
  • Let happy thoughts multiply like rabbits.
  • Some body parts should be floppy.
  • Keep your paws off of other people's jelly beans.
  • Good things come in small, sugar coated packages.
  • The grass is always greener in someone else's basket.
  • To show your true colors, you have to come out of the shell.
  • The best things in life are still sweet and gooey.

May the joy of the season fill your heart.
... and may God bless you ...
Happy Easter!

Family tree ...

Genealogy not only makes me feel a part of "something bigger", it is also my way of documenting history - not just mine, but, again, a reflection of what it took to get where we are ... and perhaps even a sense of the future.  If I'm your elder, my footprints precede you, as yours will precede those of younger than yourself.

The Pike ... Long Beach, California
Gee Gee, this one's for you!  Anything look familiar?!  *smile*  Gee Gee is a high school friend who had an older brother in the Navy.  The Pike was "sailor" territory, for sure.  We had many a good time there, with Ken's sailor buddies!

Watts riots, L.A., Aug. 11-17, 1965

I was working in downtown L.A. (my first job out of high school) when the Watts riots took place.  I had to take several buses, from Hawthorne, so about three necessary transfers through the area.  I remember the stark devastation and guards on every corner the day my boss and I took a drive through the area.  What a sad and scary time that was ... especially if you lived in or around the Watts area.

Hollywood, mid 1960s

My mother worked in food service at LAX in the 1960s.  It was so fun to go out there.  At that time, LAX was high tech - even the restaurant (on top) revolved!  And I loved driving on Sepulveda Blvd., which went underneath the airport runways!  It was pretty cool!

Our way of cruisin' on Friday and Saturday night was driving from LaBrea Ave, up to Sunset & Vine / Hollywood & Vine, etc.  Then to the after-hours clubs on the strip.  Boss, bitchin', happnin', cool, etc.

Facebook "names" ... what is allowed?

3/26/2013

I'd like to know how people get by with using filthy, derogatory, offensive and low life names or titles for themselves, on their FB pages ... like (excuse me) the familiar "f" bomb in oh so many colorful ways.  Why isn't it mandatory to use your given name?  Or, at least, why aren't there any FB guidelines about what can and cannot be used.  And, if there is (in their 6 pt. type nobody reads), then no one on the FB staff monitors that kind of thing.  I would give examples, however, I don't want to drive anyone to their pages - people who use those names are pretty much what their name implies ... and "it ain't pretty"!  I feel sorry for people who seem to have a need to "stand out", by being assholes (oh, DID I SAY THAT??)!  ... and that word is "mild" compared to what some use on their FB page!

Okay, I found this - direct from the FB website, about names:
http://www.facebook.com/help/292517374180078

What names are allowed on Facebook?
Personal Accounts
Facebook is a community where people use their real identities. (NOT)  We require everyone to provide their real names, so you always know who you're connecting with. (uh huh, yeah, right)  This helps keep our community safe. (not if you never monitor it)

Names can’t include: (Hey, Mark, have you taken a look lately?!)
  • Symbols, numbers, unusual capitalization, repeating characters or punctuation
  • Characters from multiple languages
  • Titles of any kind (ex: professional, religious, etc)
  • Words, phrases, or nicknames in place of a middle name
  • Offensive or suggestive content of any kind

Other things to keep in mind:
  • The name you use should be your real name as it would be listed on your credit card, student ID, etc.
  • Nicknames can be used as a first or middle name if they're a variation of your real first or last name (like Bob instead of Robert)
  • You can also list another name on your account (ex: maiden name, nickname, or professional name), by adding an alternate name to your timeline  (Oh, I get it, exceptions to the rules!)
  • Only one person's name should be listed on the account – timelines are for individual use only
  • Pretending to be anything or anyone is not allowed

Based on the above guidelines from Facebook themselves, I could give them a LIST of people they SHOULD check ... that OBVIOUSLY they don't!  What a bunch of CRAPOLA, Mark!  How many of you Facebook users REALLY followed these guidelines when you signed up?  It's obvious when you read people's names, they don't!

Black Ice

3/24/2013

Sometimes the spring snowstorms can be worse than in the middle of the season.  Fortunately, again, this storm (so far) has gone east and south of us here.  We had occasional snow, with somewhat of a melt-off ... now, we are left with black ice.
I thought I was going to have a winter without injury ... WRONG!  I fell this morning.  I wore my boots just because the yards and open spaces still have a bit of snow, and ice.  Of course, no shoes or boots help, on ice ... ice is ice is ice ... ugh ...
Stopping at an auto store, the first step on to their sidewalk in front of the store, and down I went.  It was black ice.  I fell forward (usually I fall on my posterior where there's more cushioning, ha).  My purse, my hands and feeling myself going down stopped me from falling on my face!  I ended up with a scraped knee.  They had no ice pack, but were able to give me a bandaid, as the scrape bled a bit.  I came home, cleaned my wound, and now am going to stay inside, unless it warms up significantly today!!
Be careful, on black ice!!!  Be safe ...
